Professional General House Cleaning in Sydney — What You Need to Know
If you're searching for a reliable general cleaning service in Sydney, you've probably already realised that not all cleaners are equal. Some show up late. Some miss entire rooms. Some use products that leave more residue than they remove. We've heard it all from our customers — and it's exactly why we built Maid Services Sydney around a different standard.
How Often Should You Get a General Clean?
The honest answer is: it depends on how you live. For most Sydney homes, a fortnightly house clean strikes the right balance between keeping things fresh and keeping costs manageable. If you have young children, indoor pets, or entertain regularly, a weekly clean often makes more sense — and it's more affordable per visit than you might expect.
For singles or couples with a tidy routine, monthly might be sufficient as long as you're staying on top of the basics in between. The key is finding a rhythm that means your home never feels like it's getting away from you. We'll help you work that out — just ask.
What Makes a Great General Clean?
A proper general clean isn't just a quick vacuum and spray of Glen 20. It should cover every room methodically, using the right products for each surface, and leave your home genuinely fresh — not just looking tidy on the surface. That means:
- Using hospital-grade disinfectants in bathrooms and kitchens where bacteria matters most
- Properly vacuuming under furniture and along skirting boards — not just the open floor
- Wiping surfaces clean rather than just shifting dust around
- Mopping with a freshly rinsed mop — not one that spreads old dirty water across your floors
- Actually checking inside the microwave, around taps, and behind the toilet — the spots most people skip
Our cleaners follow a detailed room-by-room checklist on every visit. It's not a loose guideline — it's a non-negotiable standard that ensures consistency every single time.
We offer eco-friendly cleaning product options at no extra charge. Just let us know when booking if you prefer non-toxic, fragrance-free, or pet-safe products for your home.
General Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning — Which Do You Need?
This is probably the most common question we get. Here's the simplest way to think about it:
A general clean is maintenance — it keeps your home in great shape from week to week. A deep clean is a reset — it tackles the built-up grime, scrubs the grout, cleans inside the oven and fridge, and gets into every corner that regular cleaning doesn't always reach.
Most of our long-term customers do a deep clean every 3 to 6 months, and a general clean in between. That combination means their home is always in genuinely excellent condition — not just surface clean.
If you're starting with us for the first time and your home hasn't been professionally cleaned in a while, we'd often recommend beginning with a deep clean and then moving to regular general cleans. We'll always give you an honest recommendation when you enquire.
Are You Moving Out? That's a Different Service
A general clean is perfect for ongoing home maintenance, but if you're vacating a rental property and need your bond back, you'll want our end of lease cleaning service instead. That's a completely different scope of work — it follows the REIQ checklist that property managers and landlords use to assess properties, and it comes with our bond-back guarantee.
Do You Need to Be Home?
Absolutely not. Many of our customers are at work when we clean. You can leave a key, give us an entry code, or arrange access in whatever way suits you. All our cleaners are police-checked, fully insured, and have agreed to our strict code of conduct — so you can trust us in your home, even when you're not there.
If you do prefer to be home the first time to show us around and explain your preferences, that's completely fine too. After that, most customers find it's easier (and frankly more enjoyable) to come home to a clean house they didn't have to be there for.
